Ethereal Maternity Session at Lake Norman State Park
Some sessions come together so effortlessly, and Nicole and Christian’s maternity session at Lake Norman State Park was one of them. As they prepare to welcome their first baby this July, it was such an honor to document this exciting chapter of their lives. From the moment we met, they were incredibly kind, easygoing, and so clearly excited to become parents. Nicole chose the most beautiful neutral, flowy outfits that photographed perfectly against the natural landscape. The soft, earthy tones complemented the greens of the woods and the warm evening light, creating the timeless, organic look I love so much. We began the session wandering through the wooded trails before making our way down to the beach as the sun dipped lower in the sky. The evening light couldn’t have been more perfect—it cast everything in a soft, golden glow that made the entire session feel peaceful and almost dreamlike. Nicole had reached out after seeing another maternity session I’d photographed at Lake Norman State Park. She especially loved the ethereal images we created in the water and hoped to incorporate that same feeling into her own session. We captured romantic portraits of Nicole and Christian together, along with quiet, intimate images of Nicole standing in the water, celebrating this fleeting season before meeting their little one. Before the session, I picked a handful of wildflowers to bring along as a simple, natural detail. They added just the right touch of softness and fit beautifully with the relaxed, organic feel of the evening. By the end of the session, everything had come together so beautifully—the golden light, the peaceful setting, and this incredibly sweet couple. It quickly became one of my favorite maternity sessions I’ve photographed, and Lake Norman State Park continues to be one of my favorite locations for maternity photography. With its wooded trails, sandy beach, and beautiful waterfront, it offers so much variety while still feeling quiet and intimate.
